Your East Coast Auckland Wine Tour takes you
North (approx' 50 minutes) over Auckland's Harbour Bridge,
along the East Coast through small seaside towns and farming communities.
You get some great views of the Hauraki Gulf and Pacific Ocean, native forest and farmland along the way.
Vineyards in the Matakana wine country are
producing superb wines from grapes grown exclusively on their own
estates. Some of the best boutique wineries in the country are doing
things their way by growing grapes to suit each vineyard's individual
"terroir", a combination of local climate and soil type, and following
traditional, time honoured, labour intensive methods are creating
distinctively styled wines.
Wineries we select from include Ransom Wines, Ascension, Hyperion, Brick Bay, Omaha Bay, Mahurangi River, Runner Duck & Heron's Flight.
"...great wines, great
lunch, great tour!..."
Adam Keane, Isle of Man, UK

You'll be able to experience NZ's only Carmenere (a Bordeaux grape
once believed to be extinct!) and the only winery making exclusively
Sangiovese & Dolcetto. Pinot Gris and Chardonnay are two local white specialities and one winery is experimenting with Albarino from Spain. In a recent vintage a Matakana winery was awarded Best
NZ Merlot, beating all the favourites from Hawkes Bay! There are some
wonderful Cab' Sav'/Merlot/Malbec/Cab' Franc to try as well as Syrah
(Shiraz) and Pinot Noir.
Chat to the winemakers and find out some of their secrets.
Lunch is enjoyed at a vineyard restaurant overlooking the vines
(included).
